Resumes. These summarize your background and achievements, in summary form. Here are the main points:
Plan out your resume, because you are planning out your life. Resumes involve fore-thought; they are not an after-thought.
Begin early – do not wait until you are about to graduate; start a few years early, and develop it over time!
Have three types of resume : (a) a “dream” resume; (b) a “realistic” resume; (c) an “actual” resume. Update all of them, as your life changes over the years.
Follow other people’s models, if you wish, but try to synthesize the final product, which is “your life, on one page”.
Have your resume ready for instant use, when an opportunity arises. You never know when that opportunity will come to you.
Follow the job-market, even if you have a job. This will make writing your next resume easier. You are not so much “looking for jobs”, as you are “tasting the flavor” of the market, and trying to evaluate what it is doing. This will make the next job-search easier.
