Purpose

Purpose. The purpose of this book is to show Chinese middle school and college English language students how to write effective sentences, paragraphs, an expository outline, a narrative outline, a resume, and a cover letter. This book is also written for Chinese middle school English teachers, with a view to helping them to teach writing more effectively.

Audience. Anyone who wants to learn more about the above writing skills. This book is for Middle school teachers of English (in China), as well as all others who want to write.

Content. This book will discuss how to write six types of sentence, nine types of paragraph, the expository article outline, the narrative article outline, a basic resume, and a basic cover letter. These six writing skills are considered to be the absolute minimum a college English major should know in China today (2007).

Aim. The aim of this book is to foster basic communication through writing. It is meant to be a framework, for everyone who wants to say something through writing. Through a union of structure (how to write sentences or paragraphs) and the writer’s inner creativity, many interesting documents will emerge.
