Paragraph Text:
[TS]    Today, environmental pollution is decreasing in Urumqi.
[S1]    Many “green spaces” are increasing, as well as city lawns; people today like a green city, and they are promoting landscape designs for environmental purposes.
[S2]    Although motor vehicle exhaust is not decreasing today, the bus system has set up exhaust purifiers in the buses.
[S3]    Soot emissions are the result of two problems, like industrial dust discharged, and suspended particles.
[S4]    We do not see it, but a lot of toxic emissions have decreased, on account of work-units trying to clean up the environment.
[S5]    Industrial effluents are again used, released and recycled by certain industrial companies.
[CS]    We should conserve our natural habitats, as we perform our duties and fulfil our obligations.

Paragraph Text:
[TS]    Today, much water is wasted in Urumqi.
[S1]    Much water is used on the city lawns, as people like a “green” city; the irrigation channels supplying the city are old, so they leak a lot.
[S2]    Public toilets consume huge amounts of water, as they have automatic flushing machines that flush every ten minutes, even when nobody is using the toilet.
[S3]    Leaky taps are the result of two problems, such as old taps, and people who do not care about water conservation.
[S4]    Although we do not see it, a lot of water is lost by car washes and factories.
[S5]    In every shower-room, people take long showers, which also wastes water.
[CS]    From these examples, the problem is clear; too much water is being wasted in Urumqi, and we should do something about it!

Title:    “Why snow in Urumqi is so dirty.”
Brainstorming:   Ait pollution – desert – dust storms – smoke – oil on the road – people litter – not enough trees – surrounding mountains – little rain.
Plan outline:
[TS]    Snow – Urumqi – dirty.
[S1]    Air pollution – smoke, factories.
[S2]    Desert dust storms – not enough trees.
[S3]    Oil on roads – people litter.
[S4]    Surrounding mountains – air cannot move freely.
     [S5]    Little rain.
[CS]   Must solve – or dirty!
Paragraph Text:
[TS]    Why is Urumqi’s snow so dirty?
[S1]    First, the smoke from factories creates a lot of air pollution; one day after a fresh snow-fall, you can see little black dots of soot on the snow.
[S2]    Since there are not enough trees in Urumqi, when the desert dust storms come, everything is covered in both desert dust and powdered trash.
[S3]    A lot of engine-oil from old trucks falls onto the roads; many people throw litter everywhere.
[S4]    Since Urumqi is surrounded by mountains, the new air cannot enter the city; the old and polluted air blows around the city again and again, but we must live in it!
[S5]    Finally, there is little rain, which can wash away some of the pollution.
[CS]   we must therefore solve Urumqi’s air pollution problem, or the snow will always be dirty!

[S4]    They are very big, so they are hard to use.
[S5]    They are not very efficient, so we must work very hard, for such a small result.
[CS]    Bamboo brooms are old-fashioned and out-of-date; we should therefore replace them!
