In this part of the book, I will present many of the example paragraphs that were written in class with the classes of 0501 / 0503 / 0505 / 0507 / 0509, from the English Department of Urumqi Vocational University, Urumqi, Xin Jiang, P. R. China. These paragraphs were written between September and December, 2006. They were written on the large, class blackboard; they were developed collaboratively with the classes. As you read these examples, please do not look at them with an eye to copying them; instead, please analyze their structure, so that you can understand how to make other paragraphs, which are synthesized out of your own creative writing process.
Each example (taken from the nine “developments” of Time, Process, Space, Example, Comparison, Contrast, Cause, Effect, and Classification), will try to follow this format:
